How Fragile we are

Read just now about 4 cyclists killed in Oudsthoorn - on the R62 between Oudtshoorn and Calitzdorp. Bakkie overtaking and ploughing into a group of 11 cyclists.

It is such sad news - so unnecessary. 4 families whose lives will be changed forever, 4 people who just stopped dreaming.

Raising awareness for bicycles - that's the reason for the Argus' existence - a protest ride against exactly this.

Will be sourcing a black armband to wear for these riders, who were training for this ride, but now won't be there.

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead,
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

...

The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood.
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

- W H Auden
